After growing up in Spain, our mother loved to visit small towns in Mexico for their handmade goods, silver and leather. This mid-century vintage glass heart is the perfect example.
This sturdy amber glass piece was bought in Tonalá, Guadalajara. Shaped as a heart with closed loop top - it’s perfect to hang, use as a paper weight or upright on display for sunlight to dance through. Very small air bubbles run through the whole piece. It has an ever so slight rippled/hammered finish to the touch.
The paper stamp utilizes the historical and cultural weight of the eagle, which traces back centuries to Aztec foundation legends and serves as Mexico’s prominent national emblem. It was introduced by the government as an official national quality seal and trademark to boost the reputation of Mexican-manufactured products, foster national pride, and protect local industries as the global market expanded.
